disc golf carts for backpack disc golfers

Founder with Models Mark-10 & Mark-9

Company founder, Mark Ravenelle, wanted a cart to haul his backpacks. No stranger to creating inventions to solve problems, the bug to design a backpack carrying cart became overwhelming.  The sport was seeing carts frequently rolling over on disc golfers, seriously tweaking shoulders and elbows & spilling contents onto the ground.   The 2-3-4 wheel carts designed for smooth, flat surfaces were not hitting the mark.   Starting a new cart from scratch, a list of deliverables took shape.  Fortifying the list, local legend, Greg Bianco , a.k.a. 'Old Greg', donated his thoughts on desirable cart features and had some great advice on furniture manufacturing only woodworkers could appreciate

THE LIST:

-   Hold all and only backpacks

-   Backpacks would sit on an open platform

-   Cart collapses for vehicle storage and shipping

-   Will not roll over

-   Integrated umbrella holder

-   Smooth edges throughout

-   Have a rolling handle

-   A sturdy, smooth, plastic skid plate

-   A spot to clip a cell phone to the cart for UDisc scoring, pics & video

-  Wheel guards to prevent damage to backpacks

-  A simple wheel retention system

-  2 smooth points of contact to lift the cart over obstacles or into a car

-  A pull stick that could be removed without disturbing the backpack

-  A pull stick with infinite adjustments

Inventing takes a bit of luck, a working model is a must.  How it started was screwing sticks together into a configuration that looked like a folding backpack cart. It took eight months of designing, refining and testing to bring the entire list of features to life.   Rugged terrain backpack carts are here.  The Mark-9 disc golf cart was introduced summer 2023, the Mark-10 disc golf cart introduced at the 2024 Northeast Disc Golf Expo.

Bio......Mark has played disc golf game since 2006, enjoying those occasional flashes of excellence.  Hooked for life.  He saw right off how disc golf drew people and families out of their homes to gather in the fields and forests for fun and exercise.    Promoting disc golf became a passion.  Caretaker of NH's Muldoon public course for 5 years, leading the course through a major safety reconfiguration and tee pad redesigns. Also involved with many projects at other local courses.  Whether it's improving course safety or improving disc golf equipment safety, the efforts are intended to enhance disc golfers experience in a positive way.
